Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup brewed espresso or strong cold coffee cooled to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or milk of choice
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract or almond extract optional, but recommended

Equipment

  • Ninja blender or high-powered blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tall drinking glass
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Ice cube tray or ice maker

Method

  1. Brew 1 cup of strong espresso or cold brew coffee and let it cool to room temperature. Cold coffee matters because pouring hot liquid into a blender with ice can create dangerous steam and weaken your ice texture.
  2. Pour the cooled coffee into your Ninja blender or high-powered blender.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of whole milk or your preferred milk substitute to the blender.
  4. Measure out 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk and pour it into the blender.
  5. If using vanilla extract or almond extract, add 2 tablespoons now.
  6. Add 1 cup of ice cubes to the blender.
  7. Blend on high speed for 45 to 60 seconds until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy with no visible ice chunks.
  8. Pour the frappe into a tall glass and serve immediately with a straw or spoon.

Notes

Use cold or room-temperature coffee, never hot coffee. Blend for at least 45 seconds for the signature creamy texture. Make your coffee extra strong by using espresso or double-brewed coffee. Freeze leftover strong coffee in ice cube trays and use those frozen cubes instead of regular ice for a frappe that never gets watered down. Serve immediately after blending because the ice melts quickly. Chill your glass for 5 minutes in the freezer before pouring to keep your frappe cold and thick for longer.
