Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers loosely packed
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice optional
  • 1 small piece ginger about 1 inch, optional
  • 1 cinnamon stick optional
  • 3 to 4 whole cloves optional

Method
 

  1. Pour 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers into a measuring cup and remove any debris or stems.
  2. Bring 6 cups of water to a rolling boil in a large pot over high heat.
  3. Stir the dried hibiscus flowers into the boiling water until fully submerged.
  4. Add the ginger, cinnamon stick, and cloves if using, then stir to combine.
  5. Remove the pot from heat and let the mixture steep for 8 to 15 minutes, depending on desired strength.
  6. Strain the hibiscus mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing gently to extract all liquid; discard solids.
  7. While the juice is still warm, stir in 1/2 cup sugar until fully dissolved, tasting and adjusting sweetness as needed.
  8. Stir in 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold before serving over ice.

Notes

Store leftover juice in airtight glass bottles in the refrigerator for up to two weeks; shake before serving.
