Ingredients
  

Main
  • 0.75 ounces rye whiskey
  • 0.75 ounces cognac
  • 0.75 ounces sweet vermouth
  • 0.5 ounce Benedictine liqueur
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Large ice cube for serving
  • Lemon twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Mixing glass or cocktail pitcher
  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon
  • Jigger for measuring
  • Strainer or Hawthorne strainer
  • Rocks glass
  • Ice (preferably large cubes)

Method
 

  1. Measure 0.75 ounces of rye whiskey into a mixing glass.
  2. Add 0.75 ounces of cognac to the mixing glass.
  3. Pour in 0.75 ounces of sweet vermouth.
  4. Add 0.5 ounce of Benedictine liqueur.
  5. Add 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
  6. Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with ice.
  7. Stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until well chilled.
  8. Place a large ice cube into a rocks glass.
  9. Strain the chilled cocktail into the rocks glass over the ice cube.
  10. Express a lemon twist over the drink and drop it into the glass as garnish.

Notes

Serve immediately for best flavor and aroma.
