Ingredients

Main
  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 1 cup milk of choice dairy or non-dairy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 teaspoons sweetener like honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup hot water

Equipment

  • small bowl
  • Whisk or frother
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Medium saucepan
  • Mug or glass for serving

Method

  1. In a small bowl, sift 2 teaspoons matcha powder to remove any lumps.
  2. Add 1/4 cup hot water (around 80°C) to the bowl and whisk briskly with a whisk or frother until a smooth, frothy paste forms.
  3. Heat 1 cup milk of choice in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat for about 3-4 minutes, stirring gently and ensuring it does not boil.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1-2 teaspoons sweetener of choice into the warm milk.
  5. Use a frother to froth the milk until light and airy, about 1 minute.
  6. Pour the frothed milk into the matcha paste bowl and stir gently to combine.
  7. Transfer the latte into mugs or glasses.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of matcha powder on top and serve immediately.
