  • 2 shots espresso about 2 ounces, freshly pulled
  • 1 cup cold milk whole, 2%, or non-dairy
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract pure vanilla, not imitation
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup or more to taste
  • Ice cubes
  • Pinch of salt optional, balances sweetness

Method
 

  1. Pull two shots of fresh espresso (about 2 ounces total) directly into a small cup or shot glass.
  2. Fill a tall glass three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  3. Pour 1 tablespoon of vanilla syrup into the iced glass.
  4. Add 1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract to the glass.
  5. Carefully pour the hot espresso over the syrup and ice, stirring gently to combine.
  6. Froth 1 cup of cold milk using a milk frother on the cold setting, or shake in a jar for 30 seconds to create foam.
  7. Slowly pour the frothed milk over the espresso mixture, filling the glass.
  8. Stir the drink to fully incorporate the vanilla and taste, adding more syrup if desired.

Notes

Serve immediately for best texture and flavor. Customize sweetness and milk type to your preference.
