Method
- Chill your coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least three minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink.
- Pour unsweetened cocoa powder onto a small plate and lightly wet the rim of your glass with a damp finger or paper towel; rotate the rim in the cocoa powder until evenly coated.
- Add ice to your cocktail shaker until it is about three-quarters full.
- Pour 2 ounces vodka and 1 ounce Kahlua or coffee liqueur into the shaker with the ice.
- Add 1.5 ounces mascarpone cream to the shaker.
- Pour 0.5 ounces cooled espresso into the shaker, then add 2 dashes vanilla extract.
- Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12 to 15 seconds.
- Strain the mixture into the prepared coupe or martini glass using a cocktail strainer.
- Float 2 to 3 coffee beans on top and dust lightly with additional cocoa powder; serve immediately.
Notes
Make your mascarpone cream ahead by whisking room-temperature mascarpone with a touch of vanilla and powdered sugar, then refrigerate in a squeeze bottle for easy portioning and presentation.
