  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 ounce triple sec or Cointreau
  • Kosher salt for rimming
  • 1 cup ice plus extra for serving
  • 2 lime wedges for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Knife for cutting lime wedges
  • Rocks glasses (2)
  • Shallow dish for salt rim

Method

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of two rocks glasses and dip the rims into kosher salt to coat.
  2. Fill each salt-rimmed glass three-quarters full with large ice cubes.
  3. Remove the green tops from the strawberries and halve them lengthwise.
  4. Place the strawberry halves in a cocktail shaker and gently muddle for about 10 seconds to release the juices.
  5. Add tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  6. Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice and secure the lid.
  7. Shake vigorously for 12 to 15 seconds until well chilled.
  8. Strain the mixture evenly into the prepared ice-filled glasses.
  9. Garnish each glass with a lime wedge and serve immediately.

Notes

Chill the glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes before preparing to keep your margarita colder longer.
