Strawberry Agua Fresca

A refreshing Mexican drink made with fresh strawberries, sugar, water, and a pinch of salt. Ready in minutes for a perfect summer treat.

Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries hulled and halved
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 4 cups cold water

  • Blender or food processor
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Large pitcher
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Glasses for serving

Method
 

  1. Rinse strawberries under cool running water and pat dry. Hull and halve the berries.
  2. Add the halved strawberries and 4 cups of cold water to the blender.
  3. Blend on high speed for 1 to 2 minutes until the mixture is completely smooth.
  4. Pour the blended mixture into a large pitcher and stir in 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  5. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean pitcher, pressing solids gently with a spoon to extract liquid.
  6. Refrigerate the strained liquid for at least 30 minutes until well chilled, or serve immediately over ice.
  7. Stir the agua fresca well before serving to recombine any settled ingredients.
  8. Pour into glasses filled with ice and garnish with a strawberry slice or mint sprig if desired.

Notes

Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving and stir well to recombine any separation.
