Main
  • 2 chai tea bags
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons gingerbread sauce or syrup
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Whipped cream for topping optional

Equipment

  • Saucepan or small pot
  • Whisk
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Two mugs or serving glasses
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Milk frother or immersion blender (optional)

Method

  1. Pour 1.5 cups of water into a saucepan and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat, add 2 chai tea bags, and steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Remove the tea bags and press them against the side of the pot with a spoon to extract any remaining liquid.
  4. Add 3 tablespoons of gingerbread sauce to the hot chai and whisk until fully combined.
  5. Whisk in 0.25 teaspoon of ground ginger and 0.25 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  6. Add 2 tablespoons of honey and whisk until the honey is dissolved.
  7. Pour in 0.5 cup of whole milk, return the pot to medium heat, and heat for 2 to 3 minutes until steaming but not boiling, stirring constantly.
  8. Froth the milk mixture with a milk frother or whisk vigorously for 30 seconds to create foam, if desired.
  9. Divide the hot gingerbread chai between two mugs, top with whipped cream if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

Store the prepared chai base without milk in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, then heat and add milk when ready to serve.
