Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 orange peel
  • Wood chips for smoking, optional
  • Ice large cubes preferred

Equipment

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Smoker or smoke gun (optional)
  • Ice cube tray or large ice cubes
  • Strainer
  • Old fashioned glass

Method
 

  1. Place a sugar cube in a mixing glass.
  2. Add two dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the sugar cube.
  3. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube and bitters together.
  4. Add 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey to the glass.
  5. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently for about 30 seconds.
  6. Place a large ice cube in an old fashioned glass.
  7. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over the ice cube.
  8. If using a smoker, add wood chips and infuse smoke into the glass for about 5 seconds.
  9. Let the drink sit for 1 minute to allow the smoke to permeate before serving.

Notes

Serve immediately and enjoy fresh for the best flavor.
