Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 small piece of wood chips hickory or cherry recommended
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment.
  2. Fill a mixing glass with ice to chill the vessel while preparing the cocktail.
  3. Combine 2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey, 1 ounce sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters in the mixing glass; stir gently for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.
  4. Remove ice from the serving glass; place a small piece of wood chips inside and use a smoking gun to fill the glass with smoke, covering it to trap the smoke for 10 seconds.
  5. Strain the stirred cocktail into the smoked glass.
  6. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.
  7. Let the cocktail sit for 30 seconds to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly.

Notes

Allow the cocktail to sit for a minute after smoking to let the flavors meld beautifully.
