Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 cups stout beer your choice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Heatproof glasses or mugs
  • Serving spoon

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat. Stir occasionally until it melts and turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Once the sugar is melted, carefully add the butter. Stir continuously until the butter is completely melted and incorporated.
  3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking. Be cautious as it will bubble vigorously.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the sea salt.
  5. In a separate saucepan, gently warm the stout over low heat.
  6. Once the stout is warm, whisk in the caramel mixture.
  7. Stir in the vanilla extract to add a hint of sweetness.
  8. Pour the salted caramel stout into heatproof glasses.
  9. Top with a sprinkle of sea salt for garnish, and enjoy!

Notes

Make the caramel ahead of time and store it in the fridge; just reheat it when ready to use.
