Method
- Step 1: Prepare Your Fruit. Start by selecting fresh, ripe fruits for the best flavor. Cut your pineapple into chunks and remove the skin, then cut your oranges in half if you're juicing them fresh.
- Step 2: Extract the Juices. Run the pineapple and orange through a juicer, or blend them and strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp for a smooth juice.
- Step 3: Make the Sugar Syrup. Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves completely, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Step 4: Cool the Syrup. Pour the sugar syrup into a bowl and let it cool to room temperature for at least 5 minutes to prevent diluting the cold drink.
- Step 5: Combine the Liquids. In a large pitcher, mix pineapple juice, orange juice, cooled sugar syrup, and fresh lime juice. Stir gently until well combined.
- Step 6: Taste and Adjust. Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or tartness to your preference by adding more lime juice or syrup as needed.
- Step 7: Fill Glasses with Ice. Divide the ice between two tall glasses, filling about two-thirds full to keep the drink cold without over-diluting.
- Step 8: Pour and Serve. Pour the rusa mixture over the ice, stir briefly, garnish with mint if desired, and serve immediately.
Notes
For an extra cold drink without dilution, freeze some of the juice mixture into ice cubes ahead of time and use them instead of plain ice.
