Ingredients

Main
  • 1 slice reishi mushroom 1 to 2 inches
  • 8 to 10 ounces filtered water
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon honey optional
  • 1 thin slice fresh ginger optional
  • 2 to 3 dried red dates or jujubes optional
  • 1 small handful goji berries optional

Equipment

  • Electric kettle or stovetop kettle
  • Mug or teacup (8 to 12 ounces)
  • Small strainer or infuser basket
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Small glass jar or container (for storing reishi slice)

Method

  1. Rinse the reishi mushroom slice under cool running water for about 10 seconds to remove any dust or debris.
  2. Bring 8 to 10 ounces of filtered water to a full boil (200 to 212°F) in an electric kettle or stovetop kettle.
  3. Place the rinsed reishi slice directly into your mug or inside a small infuser basket.
  4. Pour the hot water over the reishi slice, filling the mug about three-quarters full.
  5. Cover the mug loosely and steep for 10 minutes to extract flavor and beneficial compounds.
  6. After 10 minutes, remove the reishi slice by lifting out the infuser basket or straining the tea into another mug.
  7. Stir in honey, ginger, dried red dates, or goji berries if desired to customize the flavor.
  8. Allow the tea to cool to a comfortable drinking temperature, then sip and savor slowly.

Notes

A single reishi slice can be steeped 5 to 7 times; store used slices in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator between brews.
