  • 2 ounces blended or rye whisky
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounces honey
  • 0.5 ounces fresh ginger juice or ginger liqueur
  • 0.5 ounces hot water for dissolving honey
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon twist for garnish

  • Bar strainer or slotted spoon
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Small spoon

  • Coupe glass or rocks glass
  • Small bowl or cup

Method
 

  1. Combine 0.5 ounces hot water and 0.5 ounces honey in a small bowl and stir until dissolved.
  2. Peel and grate fresh ginger, then press to extract 0.5 ounces of juice or measure 0.5 ounces ginger liqueur.
  3. Squeeze fresh lemon into a jigger to yield 0.75 ounces of juice, straining out any pulp.
  4. Fill a cocktail shaker with a generous handful of ice cubes.
  5. Pour 2 ounces of blended or rye whisky into the shaker over the ice.
  6. Add the prepared honey water into the shaker.
  7. Add 0.5 ounces fresh ginger juice (or ginger liqueur) and 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice to the shaker.
  8. Shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until well chilled and slightly aerated.
  9. Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe glass or rocks glass over fresh ice.
  10. Garnish with a twisted strip of lemon peel, expressing the oils over the drink and dropping it in.

Notes

Honey water can be made in advance at a 1:1 ratio and stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
