Panera Green Tea

A refreshing homemade version of Panera's signature iced green tea with honey, lemon, and a hint of sea salt.

Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 green tea bags or 1 teaspoon loose leaf green tea per cup
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes about 1 cup
  • Pinch of sea salt optional

Equipment

  • Kettle or pot for boiling water
  • Two large mugs or glasses
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tea infuser or strainer
  • Pitcher (optional)

Method
 

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil in a kettle or pot.
  2. Pour the boiling water into two mugs or a heat-safe pitcher immediately.
  3. Place one green tea bag in each mug or add 1 teaspoon loose leaf tea per cup in a tea infuser.
  4. Steep the tea for 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Remove the tea bags or infuser and gently squeeze out any remaining liquid.
  6. Stir 1 tablespoon of honey into each mug until completely dissolved.
  7. Add 1/2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to each mug and stir to combine.
  8. Let the tea cool for 2 to 3 minutes, then fill each glass with ice and pour the tea over the ice.
  9. Give a final stir, taste, and adjust sweetness or lemon juice as desired.

Notes

Make a larger batch and store in the refrigerator for up to three days, adding fresh ice and lemon juice before serving.
