Ingredients

Base Slushie Mix
  • 1 1/2 cups fruit juice cranberry, orange, mixed berry, or your preferred flavor
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice or lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup or agave nectar
  • Pinch of salt

Equipment

  • Ninja Creami machine
  • Two Creami-compatible freezer cups with lids and straws
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Small pitcher (optional)

Method

  1. Pour your chosen fruit juice into a measuring cup and add the water. Mix them together to ensure even distribution of flavors throughout the frozen mixture.
  2. Squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice into the juice and water mixture. The acidity cuts through sweetness and adds brightness.
  3. Add your simple syrup or liquid sweetener and stir thoroughly until combined.
  4. Drop in just a tiny pinch of salt and stir it in to amplify all the fruit flavors.
  5. Take a small sip of your mixture before freezing and adjust sweetness or citrus levels if needed.
  6. Pour your mixture into your Creami-compatible freezer cups, filling them to just below the fill line to allow for expansion.
  7. Place the lids securely on your cups and insert the included straws.
  8. Place your cups in the freezer and let them sit undisturbed for at least 4 hours, though overnight is ideal for best results.
  9. Take your frozen cup out of the freezer and insert it firmly into your Creami machine, making sure it locks into place properly.
  10. Choose your desired setting: sorbet for light and fluffy slushie, or slushi for partially frozen drink, depending on your preferred texture.
  11. Hit start and watch as your Creami transforms the solid frozen block into beautiful shaved ice in less than a minute. Serve immediately.

Notes

Freeze your finished slushies back in the Creami cups for up to a week, so you can pull them out and run another cycle whenever you want a quick frozen treat. Use juice with actual flavor rather than diluted varieties, since freezing can mute taste slightly. Fresh citrus juice makes an enormous difference compared to bottled varieties. Serve immediately after making for best texture.
