Ingredients

Main
  • 12 to 15 fresh mint leaves loosely packed
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup 1 tablespoon
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 4 ounces sparkling water about half a cup
  • 1 cup crushed ice or large ice cubes
  • Lime wheel or mint sprig for garnish

Equipment

  • Mixing glass or small bowl
  • Cocktail muddler or wooden spoon handle
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Bar spoon or long-handled teaspoon
  • Highball glass or drinking glass
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Rinse 12 to 15 fresh mint leaves and pat dry.
  2. Place mint leaves in a mixing glass and muddle gently for about 10 seconds to release oils.
  3. Add 0.5 ounces simple syrup to the muddled mint and stir to combine.
  4. Squeeze in 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice and stir gently.
  5. Fill a highball glass with 1 cup crushed ice or large ice cubes.
  6. Strain the mint, syrup, and lime mixture into the ice-filled glass, leaving most mint leaves behind.
  7. Top with 4 ounces of cold sparkling water and stir gently with a bar spoon.
  8. Garnish with a lime wheel or mint sprig and serve immediately.

Notes

Chill your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before making the drink to keep it colder longer without extra ice.
