Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces bourbon whiskey mid-range quality works perfectly
  • 1 ounce cherry liqueur Heering or Luxardo preferred
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup
  • Superfine sugar for rimming the glass
  • Ice cubes fresh and cold
  • 1 maraschino cherry for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Strainer or Hawthorne strainer
  • Small shallow dish
  • Cocktail glass or coupe glass
  • Citrus juicer or hand juicer
  • Knife

Method
 

  1. Pour superfine sugar into a shallow dish, wet the rim of a cocktail glass with a lemon wedge, then rotate the glass through the sugar to coat evenly.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes.
  3. Measure and add 2 ounces of bourbon whiskey to the shaker.
  4. Measure and add 1 ounce of cherry liqueur to the shaker.
  5. Measure and add 0.75 ounces of fresh lemon juice to the shaker.
  6. Measure and add 0.5 ounces of simple syrup to the shaker.
  7. Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the outside is frosty.
  8. Strain the cocktail into the sugar-rimmed glass.
  9. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately while chilled. Always use fresh lemon juice and high-quality cherry liqueur for best flavor.
