Ingredients

Main
  • 2 shots of espresso or 1 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish optional

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • Milk frother or whisk
  • Measuring spoons
  • Small saucepan
  • Coffee mug

Method

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso (or 1 cup of strong brewed coffee) using an espresso machine or coffee maker.
  2. Heat 1 cup of milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until warm and small bubbles form around the edges, about 3 to 4 minutes. Do not boil.
  3. Froth the warm milk using a milk frother or whisk until it doubles in volume, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. In a large mug, stir together the brewed espresso, 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well blended.
  5. Pour the frothed milk into the mug over the espresso mixture, using a spoon to hold back the foam, then spoon the foam on top.
  6. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg over the foam for garnish (optional).
  7. Serve the latte immediately while hot.

Notes

Use real maple syrup for the best flavor; imitation syrups may alter the taste.
