Ingredients

Main
  • 1.5 ounces vodka 45 ml
  • 0.5 ounces Cointreau or triple sec 15 ml
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice 22 ml
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup 15 ml
  • 1 tablespoon sugar for rimming the glass
  • 1 lemon wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Coupe or martini glass
  • Small shallow dish or plate
  • Citrus juicer or hand squeezer
  • Bar spoon

Method

  1. Chill a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5 minutes.
  2. Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of the chilled glass to moisten.
  3. Dip the glass rim into sugar in a shallow dish, rotating to coat evenly.
  4. Add ice to a cocktail shaker, filling it about halfway.
  5. Measure and pour 1.5 ounces vodka into the shaker over the ice.
  6. Add 0.5 ounces Cointreau or triple sec to the shaker.
  7. Pour 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice and 0.5 ounces simple syrup into the shaker.
  8. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  9. Strain the mixture into the sugar-rimmed glass, leaving the ice behind.
  10. Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist on the rim and serve immediately.

Notes

Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice and chill your glass to keep the cocktail cold longer and the sugar rim crisp.
