Method
- Chill drinking glasses in the freezer for at least five minutes and ensure heavy cream is cold.
- Pour 1 ounce of Kahlua liqueur into each chilled glass; add a splash of cold water or ice cubes if desired.
- Combine cold heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl and whip until soft peaks form (about 1–2 minutes with an electric mixer or 3–4 minutes by hand).
- Stop whipping when soft peaks hold their shape but the cream remains silky; taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
- Slowly spoon or pour whipped cream over the Kahlua in each glass, using the back of a spoon to create distinct layers.
- Optionally dust the top with cocoa powder, instant coffee, chocolate shavings, or cinnamon sugar; garnish with coffee beans if desired.
- Serve immediately and either stir to combine the layers or sip with a spoon to enjoy the contrast of Kahlua and cream.
Notes
Serve immediately for best texture; whipped cream holds peaks for only a few minutes before layers begin to merge.
