Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces 1/4 cup Kahlua liqueur
  • 1 cup cold heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 to 6 ice cubes optional, for chilled version

Equipment

  • Measuring jigger or shot glass
  • Measuring spoon
  • Two drinking glasses or coffee cups
  • Bar spoon or long-handled teaspoon
  • Milk frother or whisk

Method

  1. Chill drinking glasses in the freezer for at least five minutes and ensure heavy cream is cold.
  2. Pour 1 ounce of Kahlua liqueur into each chilled glass; add a splash of cold water or ice cubes if desired.
  3. Combine cold heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl and whip until soft peaks form (about 1–2 minutes with an electric mixer or 3–4 minutes by hand).
  4. Stop whipping when soft peaks hold their shape but the cream remains silky; taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Slowly spoon or pour whipped cream over the Kahlua in each glass, using the back of a spoon to create distinct layers.
  6. Optionally dust the top with cocoa powder, instant coffee, chocolate shavings, or cinnamon sugar; garnish with coffee beans if desired.
  7. Serve immediately and either stir to combine the layers or sip with a spoon to enjoy the contrast of Kahlua and cream.

Notes

Serve immediately for best texture; whipped cream holds peaks for only a few minutes before layers begin to merge.
