Japanese Highball

A light and bubbly cocktail made with quality whisky and soda water in a 1:3 ratio, served over ice in a chilled highball glass.

Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 ounces whisky preferably Japanese or blended
  • 4.5 ounces soda water cold and carbonated
  • Large ice cubes or one large block
  • Lemon twist or lime wedge optional garnish

Equipment

  • Highball glass (10-12 ounces)
  • Jigger or measuring cup (1.5-ounce and 0.5-ounce measures)
  • Bar spoon or long cocktail spoon
  • Ice (large cubes or one large block)

Method
 

  1. Chill the highball glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Fill the chilled glass completely with large ice cubes or one large ice block.
  3. Pour 1.5 ounces of whisky into a jigger and add it to the ice-filled glass.
  4. Slowly pour 4.5 ounces of ice-cold soda water over the whisky and ice.
  5. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 10 seconds in a smooth, circular motion.
  6. Optionally add a splash of extra soda water to refresh the carbonation.
  7. Add a lemon twist or lime wedge to the rim or drop it into the glass.
  8. Serve the highball immediately while cold and carbonated.

Notes

Serve immediately for peak flavor and carbonation.
