Method
- Chill a coupe glass in the freezer for at least five minutes.
- Pour 2 ounces of rye whiskey or bourbon into the jigger and add to the shaker.
- Squeeze fresh lemons to yield 0.75 ounces of lemon juice and add to the shaker.
- Measure 0.5 ounces simple syrup and 0.25 ounces dry vermouth into the shaker.
- Add one dash of Angostura bitters and fill the shaker with ice.
- Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds until well chilled.
- Strain the mixture through a Hawthorne strainer into the chilled coupe glass.
- Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, then drop it in or garnish with a cherry.
- Serve immediately to maintain the drink’s brightness and temperature.
