Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounce honey
  • 4 ounces hot water
  • 1 whole clove
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 thin lemon wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Mug or heat-safe glass (8 to 10 ounces)
  • Kettle or pot for heating water
  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring bourbon
  • Bar spoon or long-handled teaspoon for stirring
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Citrus zester or microplane

Method
 

  1. Fill a kettle with fresh water and bring to a rolling boil.
  2. Pour 2 ounces of hot water into the mug to preheat, then discard the water.
  3. Measure and pour 2 ounces of bourbon into the warmed mug.
  4. Squeeze 0.75 ounces of fresh lemon juice into the mug, straining out pulp and seeds.
  5. Add 0.5 ounce of honey to the mug with the bourbon and lemon juice.
  6. Pour 4 ounces of hot water into the mug and stir with a bar spoon for 15 seconds until honey is dissolved.
  7. Add 1 whole clove and 1 cinnamon stick to the mug, then garnish with a thin lemon wheel or twist.
  8. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your comforting hot toddy.
