Ingredients

Main
  • 8 lbs Pale Malt
  • 1 lb Crystal Malt 40L
  • 0.5 lb Flaked Corn
  • 1 oz Nugget hops bittering
  • 1 oz Saaz hops flavor
  • 1 lb Honey preferably local
  • 1 packet American Ale yeast like Safale US-05
  • 5 oz Priming sugar for bottling

Equipment

  • Large brew kettle (at least 5 gallons)
  • Fermentation vessel with airlock
  • Sanitizing solution
  • Hydrometer
  • Bottling bucket
  • Bottles and caps or a kegging system
  • Stirring spoon
  • Thermometer

Method

  1. Start by sanitizing all your brewing equipment. Cleanliness is crucial to avoid any unwanted flavors or bacteria.
  2. In your brew kettle, heat about 3 gallons of water to around 165°F.
  3. Add the crushed Crystal Malt and Flaked Corn to a grain bag and steep in the heated water for about 30 minutes.
  4. After steeping, remove the grain bag and allow it to drain back into the kettle.
  5. Bring the liquid (now called wort) to a boil. Once boiling, add the Nugget hops to start the bittering process.
  6. After 45 minutes of boiling, add the Saaz hops to contribute flavor and aroma.
  7. After a total of 60 minutes of boiling, cool the wort as quickly as possible using an immersion chiller or an ice bath.
  8. Transfer the cooled wort to your fermentation vessel. Add the honey and yeast, then seal with an airlock.
