Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 0.75 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounce fresh orange juice
  • Black salt for rimming the glass
  • Orange slice for garnish
  • Lime wedge for rimming and garnish
  • 1 cup ice crushed or cubed

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mixing jar
  • Jigger for measuring
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Margarita or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Small plate for salt rim
  • Knife for cutting lime wedge

Method

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita or coupe glass to wet the surface. Dip the rim into black salt on a small plate at a 45-degree angle and rotate to coat.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing jar two-thirds full with 1 cup of ice.
  3. Measure 2 ounces of silver tequila with a jigger and pour into the shaker.
  4. Measure 1 ounce of Cointreau or Triple Sec, then add to the shaker.
  5. Measure 0.75 ounce fresh lime juice and 0.5 ounce fresh orange juice, then add both to the shaker.
  6. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the outside is frosted.
  7. Place a cocktail strainer over the shaker opening and strain the margarita into the black-salt-rimmed glass, catching the ice.
  8. Garnish with an orange slice and a lime wheel, then serve immediately while chilled.

Notes

Pre-chill the glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes to keep the margarita colder and prevent dilution.
