Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 ounces premium cognac VSOP or XO grade
  • 1 ounce Cointreau or other premium orange liqueur
  • 0.5 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes for mixing
  • 1 orange twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Coupe glass or martini glass
  • Ice cubes
  • Citrus zester or vegetable peeler

Method
 

  1. Chill the coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Fill a mixing glass three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  3. Measure and pour 1.5 ounces of premium cognac over the ice.
  4. Add 1 ounce of Cointreau or orange liqueur to the mixing glass.
  5. Squeeze 0.5 ounces of fresh lemon juice into the glass, straining out pulp and seeds.
  6. Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 10 to 15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
  7. Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the cocktail into the chilled glass, leaving the ice behind.
  8. Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink and drop the twist into the glass as garnish.

Notes

Always use fresh lemon juice and serve immediately in a chilled glass for best flavor.
