Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated or finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for warmth
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil or ghee melted
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2-3 tablespoons water as needed for consistency

Method
 

  1. Combine turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, and cayenne in a small bowl and whisk to blend evenly.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, warm melted coconut oil, honey, and grated ginger, stirring gently for 1 minute until just warm and pourable.
  3. Add the dry spice mixture to the warm oil and honey, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Continue whisking for 2 minutes until the mixture forms a smooth paste; add water 1 teaspoon at a time if needed to reach a spoonable consistency.
  5. Stir in sea salt and adjust sweetness or spice to taste.
  6. Remove the pan from heat and allow the paste to cool to room temperature, about 10 minutes.
  7. Transfer the cooled paste to a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  8. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, stirring before each use.

Notes

Stir 1 tablespoon of paste into 8-12 ounces of warm milk or your favorite beverage before serving.
