Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces gin London Dry style preferred
  • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounce simple syrup
  • 2 to 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 3 to 4 ounces cold water or soda water
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Lemon wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass
  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer (Hawthorne or julep style)
  • Tall highball glass
  • Ice (cubes or crushed)
  • Citrus juicer or reamer

Method
 

  1. Fill your highball glass with ice to chill and keep the drink cold.
  2. Use a jigger to measure and pour 2 ounces of gin into the cocktail shaker.
  3. Add 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice to the shaker.
  4. Pour in 0.5 ounce of simple syrup to balance the citrus.
  5. Dash 2 to 3 drops of Angostura bitters into the shaker for complexity.
  6. Fill the shaker with ice until it is about three-quarters full.
  7. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds to chill and dilute.
  8. Strain the mixture into the prepared ice-filled highball glass using a Hawthorne or julep strainer.
  9. Top the drink with 3 to 4 ounces of cold water or soda water to reach the glass rim.
  10. Express a lemon twist over the cocktail to release oils, then garnish and serve immediately.

Notes

Chill your glass for at least two minutes before serving to maintain optimum temperature and flavor.
