  • 3/4 cup silver tequila 100 percent agave preferred
  • 1/4 cup Cointreau or triple sec orange liqueur
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice optional but recommended
  • 2 cups crushed ice or 1 1/2 cups if using a high-powered blender
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar for the rim
  • 1 lime wedge for the rim and garnish
  • Pinch of sea salt optional, for the rim

Equipment

  • Blender (standard or high-speed)
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Cocktail or margarita glasses
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the moistened edge into a shallow dish containing a mix of 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and a pinch of sea salt.
  2. Let the frozen limeade concentrate thaw at room temperature for about 10 minutes until soft but still mostly frozen.
  3. Pour 3/4 cup silver tequila and 1/4 cup Cointreau or triple sec into the blender.
  4. Scoop the slightly thawed limeade concentrate into the blender.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice to the blender.
  6. Add 2 cups crushed ice to the blender.
  7. Blend on high speed for 45 to 60 seconds until smooth and slushy.
  8. Pour the margarita into the prepared glasses, garnish each with a lime wedge, and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep your glasses in the freezer while you blend so the margarita stays colder longer.
