Method
- Fill your chosen glass with ice to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
- Measure 2 ounces of vodka or gin into a jigger and set aside.
- Cut and juice fresh lime to yield 0.75 ounces of juice, straining out seeds.
- Hand-tear basil leaves into rough pieces and gather mint leaves.
- Place torn basil and mint in the shaker and gently muddle 4 to 5 times.
- Add the measured spirit, fresh lime juice, elderflower liqueur and simple syrup to the shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until frosted.
- Strain the mixture into your chilled glass over fresh ice, leaving herb solids behind.
- Garnish with a fresh basil sprig and serve immediately.
Notes
For a lighter version add a splash of sparkling water and adjust simple syrup to taste.
