  • 1.5 ounces cognac or brandy
  • 0.5 ounce yellow Chartreuse
  • 0.5 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 0.25 ounce simple syrup optional
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon twist or thin lemon peel for garnish

  • Bar spoon or long mixing spoon
  • Jigger for measuring spirits accurately
  • Strainer (fine mesh or bar strainer)
  • Coupe glass or martini glass for serving
  • Citrus zester or vegetable peeler for garnish

Method
 

  1. Gather and measure all ingredients using a jigger.
  2. Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes, filling it about three-quarters full.
  3. Pour 1.5 ounces of cognac or brandy into the ice-filled mixing glass.
  4. Add 0.5 ounce of yellow Chartreuse to the mixing glass.
  5. Add 0.5 ounce of fresh lemon juice to the mixing glass.
  6. Add 0.25 ounce of simple syrup if using for slight sweetness.
  7. Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 15 to 20 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
  8. Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or martini glass, leaving the ice behind.
  9. Express oils from a lemon twist over the surface of the cocktail and drop the twist in as garnish.

Notes

Chill the serving glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before straining to keep the cocktail cold longer.
