Method
- Chill the coupe glass by filling it with ice water and let it sit while preparing the cocktail.
- Measure 2 ounces of whiskey or gin into a jigger.
- Measure 1 ounce of sweet vermouth into the jigger.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice to obtain 0.5 ounce and add it to the jigger.
- Measure 0.5 ounce of simple syrup and pour it into the jigger with the other ingredients.
- Discard the ice water from the chilled coupe glass and set the glass aside.
- Fill the cocktail shaker with ice cubes until it is about three-quarters full.
- Combine the whiskey or gin, sweet vermouth, lemon juice, and simple syrup in the shaker.
- Shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the shaker is frosty cold.
- Strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe glass, leaving the ice behind in the shaker.
- Garnish with a lemon twist by expressing the oils over the drink and placing it in the glass.
Notes
Serve immediately while cold and use fresh lemon juice for brightness.
