Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1 teaspoon whole fenugreek seeds or 1/2 teaspoon crushed
  • 1 cup 8 ounces water
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice optional
  • 1 thin slice fresh ginger optional
  • 1 small cinnamon stick optional

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or kettle
  • Measuring spoons
  • Tea infuser or fine mesh strainer
  • Mug
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Mortar and pestle (optional)

Method
 

  1. Measure 1 teaspoon whole fenugreek seeds (or 1/2 teaspoon crushed) and place in a tea infuser.
  2. Bring 1 cup water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat in a small saucepan.
  3. Place the infuser into a mug and pour the boiling water over it until three-quarters full.
  4. Cover the mug and steep for 8 minutes without stirring.
  5. Remove the infuser and press gently with a spoon to extract the remaining liquid.
  6. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon honey and 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice if desired.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or brightness, then serve hot.

Notes

Lightly crush the seeds to reduce steeping time to 5 minutes and store brewed tea in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
