Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups premium vanilla ice cream
  • 1 1/2 cups store-bought or homemade eggnog
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg plus more for garnish
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces bourbon rum, or brandy (optional)
  • Pinch of cinnamon optional
  • Pinch of sea salt

Equipment

  • Blender or milkshake maker
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tall glasses
  • Microplane or box grater
  • Spoon or straw

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment, ensuring your ice cream is slightly softened and glasses are chilled for 5 minutes.
  2. Pour 1 1/2 cups eggnog and 1/4 cup whole milk into the blender first to aid blending.
  3. Add 2 cups of premium vanilla ice cream on top of the liquids for the right creamy consistency.
  4. Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt.
  5. If desired, add 2 ounces of bourbon, rum, or brandy and a pinch of cinnamon.
  6. Blend on medium speed for 30 to 45 seconds, until completely smooth and creamy without over-aerating.
  7. Taste and adjust consistency: add more milk if too thick or an extra scoop of ice cream if too thin, then blend briefly again.
  8. Pour into chilled glasses, garnish with extra grated nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon, and serve immediately.

Notes

Use slightly softened ice cream and chill glasses for 5 minutes for best texture and presentation.
