Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces silver blanco tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounces triple sec Cointreau or similar
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup
  • Sea salt for rimming the glass
  • Lime wedge for garnish and rimming
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Strainer
  • Margarita or rocks glass
  • Cutting board
  • Small plate for salt rim

Method

  1. Fill the margarita glass halfway with ice and chill while preparing.
  2. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip into sea salt until three-quarters coated.
  3. Cut fresh limes in half and juice until you have 1 ounce of lime juice, about two limes.
  4. Add fresh ice to the cocktail shaker, filling it three-quarters full.
  5. Pour in 2 ounces of tequila and 0.5 ounces of triple sec into the shaker.
  6. Add 1 ounce of fresh lime juice and 0.5 ounces of simple syrup to the shaker.
  7. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty.
  8. Place a strainer over the shaker and pour the margarita into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  9. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and serve immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh lime juice squeezed within minutes of making the drink; bottled juice tastes artificial and flat.
