Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1 ounce gin any London Dry style works well
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1 ounce freshly pulled espresso cooled for 30 seconds
  • Ice large cubes preferred
  • Orange peel for garnish

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or moka pot
  • Mixing glass or heavy drinking glass
  • Bar spoon or long-handled teaspoon
  • Cocktail strainer (julep or Hawthorne style)
  • Jigger (optional, for measuring)
  • Rocks glass for serving

Method
 

  1. Pull a single shot of espresso and let it cool for about 30 seconds.
  2. Fill a mixing glass three-quarters full with large ice cubes.
  3. Measure and add 1 ounce of gin to the mixing glass.
  4. Measure and add 1 ounce of Campari to the mixing glass.
  5. Measure and add 1 ounce of sweet vermouth to the mixing glass.
  6. Add the cooled espresso to the mixing glass.
  7. Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 15 to 20 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.
  8. Place fresh ice in a rocks glass and strain the cocktail over the ice.
  9. Twist an orange peel over the drink to express the oils, then garnish with the peel.

Notes

Always use freshly pulled espresso cooled for 30 seconds to achieve the best flavor integration.
