Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 to 6 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick optional
  • 1 teaspoon honey optional
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice optional
  • 1 slice fresh ginger optional

  • Tea strainer or fine mesh sieve

Method
 

  1. Pour 1 cup of filtered water into a kettle or small saucepan.
  2. Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  3. While the water heats, place 4 to 6 whole cloves into a mug or teacup.
  4. Once the water boils, carefully pour it over the cloves in the mug.
  5. Add any optional enhancements such as 1 cinnamon stick, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, or a slice of fresh ginger while the water is hottest.
  6. Let the tea steep undisturbed for 6 to 8 minutes, depending on desired strength.
  7. Use a tea strainer or spoon to remove the cloves and any other solids from the tea.
  8. Taste the tea and stir in additional honey or lemon juice if needed.
  9. Enjoy the cloves tea immediately while hot for best flavor.

Notes

Serve immediately and enjoy hot. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave if desired.
