Method
- Pour sea salt into a small shallow dish, wet the rim of your serving glass with a lime wedge, and roll the rim in salt until evenly coated.
- Fill the salt-rimmed glass with ice and set aside to chill while you prepare the margarita.
- Measure and pour 2 ounces (60 ml) of tequila into a cocktail shaker or mason jar.
- Add 0.5 ounces (15 ml) of Cointreau or triple sec to the shaker.
- Squeeze fresh limes until you have 1 ounce (30 ml) of juice, strain out any pulp, and add the juice to the shaker.
- Add 0.5 ounces (15 ml) of agave nectar or simple syrup to the shaker.
- Add 1 cup of ice to the shaker, seal it tightly, and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the shaker is frosty.
- Strain the margarita into the prepared glass over fresh ice and garnish with a lime wedge. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use fresh ice in the serving glass rather than the ice used for shaking to keep the drink cold without extra dilution.
