Ingredients

Base Mojito
  • 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves gently packed
  • 0.5 ounces fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 2 ounces white rum 60 milliliters, light or silver preferred
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup 15 milliliters
  • 4 ounces club soda or soda water 120 milliliters
  • Ice cubes enough to fill the glass
  • Lime wheel for garnish
Berry Flavored Variation
  • 4 to 5 fresh strawberries or raspberries hulled
  • 0.5 ounces berry syrup or fresh berry puree 15 milliliters

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Jigger for measuring
  • Strainer or bar strainer
  • Highball or Collins glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Gather and prepare ingredients: juice ½ lime, pick 8–10 fresh mint leaves, hull berries, and measure rum, syrup, and soda.
  2. Place the mint leaves and a lime wheel in the mixing glass without ice to allow room for muddling.
  3. Muddle gently for about 10 seconds to bruise the mint and release aromatic oils without crushing leaves.
  4. Add 2 ounces white rum and 0.5 ounces simple syrup to the glass and stir gently for 5 seconds to combine.
  5. Pour in 0.5 ounces fresh lime juice and 0.5 ounces berry syrup or puree, then stir for another 5 seconds.
  6. Fill a highball or Collins glass with fresh ice cubes to maintain chill and prevent rapid dilution.
  7. Strain the muddled mixture into the ice-filled serving glass using a bar strainer to hold back solids.
  8. Top with 4 ounces chilled club soda and stir gently with a bar spoon for about 3 seconds to preserve carbonation.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel and a sprig of fresh mint, then serve immediately while bubbles are active.

Notes

Serve immediately while cold and bubbly. Adjust sweetness or fruit syrup to taste before serving.
