Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces silver or blanco tequila
  • 0.75 ounces triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup
  • 1 cup ice cubed
  • 1 lime wheel or wedge for garnish
  • Salt for rimming optional

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Rocks glass or margarita glass
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Citrus juicer or reamer

Method
 

  1. Fill a rocks or margarita glass with fresh ice cubes and set aside.
  2. Cut one fresh lime in half and juice it with a citrus juicer or reamer to yield 1 ounce, straining out any pulp.
  3. Measure 2 ounces of silver or blanco tequila into a jigger and pour into a cocktail shaker.
  4. Measure 0.75 ounces of triple sec or Cointreau and add to the shaker.
  5. Add 1 ounce fresh lime juice and 0.5 ounces simple syrup to the shaker.
  6. Fill the shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  7. Shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the shaker is frosty.
  8. Strain the margarita into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and serve immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh lime juice for brightness; bottled juice will flatten the flavor.
