Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons chai tea leaves or 2 chai tea bags
  • 1 cup milk or non-dairy alternative
  • 2 ounces spiced rum or whiskey
  • 1 tablespoon honey or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Ice optional

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Strainer

  • Shaker (optional)

Method
 

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons chai tea leaves or 2 chai tea bags to the boiling water and steep for 5 minutes.
  3. While the tea is steeping, heat 1 cup of milk in another saucepan over medium heat until warm.
  4. Strain the chai tea into a mixing glass, discarding the leaves or tea bags.
  5. Add 2 ounces spiced rum, 1 tablespoon honey, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger to the strained chai.
  6. If desired, add ice to a shaker, pour in the mixture, and shake for a few seconds to chill.
  7. Pour the warm milk into the mixture and stir gently to combine.
  8. Pour the chai cocktail into serving glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.

Notes

For a stronger chai flavor, steep the tea longer before straining.
