Main
  • 2 ounces bourbon whiskey
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Rocks glass or coupe glass
  • Citrus juicer or reamer

Method

  1. Chill your serving glass by filling it with ice while you prepare the drink.
  2. Measure 2 ounces of bourbon whiskey into the cocktail shaker using a jigger.
  3. Cut and juice fresh lemon to obtain 0.75 ounces of lemon juice, straining out pulp and seeds into the shaker.
  4. Add 0.5 ounces of simple syrup to the shaker with the bourbon and lemon juice.
  5. Fill the shaker about three-quarters full with ice cubes to chill and dilute the drink slightly.
  6. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the outside feels frosted.
  7. Discard the ice from your serving glass and strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a strainer.
  8. Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist, express the oils over the surface, and serve immediately.

Notes

Shake vigorously for full dilution and silky texture; serve immediately while cold.
