Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces bourbon preferably 100 proof or higher
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounces honey syrup equal parts honey and hot water, cooled
  • 0.25 ounces fresh ginger juice or 2 to 3 dashes of ginger liqueur
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Ice preferably large cubes
  • Lemon twist or wheel for garnish
  • Optional: fresh sprig of rosemary for aroma

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass
  • Bar spoon or long spoon
  • Jigger for measuring
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Rocks glass or coupe glass
  • Citrus juicer or hand squeezer
  • Vegetable peeler or channel knife for garnish

Method
 

  1. Mix equal parts honey and hot water in a small container and let it cool completely before using.
  2. Add a generous handful of ice to your cocktail shaker, filling it about halfway.
  3. Pour 2 ounces of bourbon into the shaker using your jigger for accuracy.
  4. Squeeze fresh lemon juice to measure 0.75 ounces and pour it into the shaker.
  5. Add 0.5 ounces of your prepared honey syrup to the shaker.
  6. Include your ginger juice or liqueur along with two dashes of Angostura bitters.
  7. Seal your shaker firmly and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds, until the outside becomes frosty and cold.
  8. Use your cocktail strainer to pour the drink into a rocks glass filled with large ice cubes.
  9. Express a lemon twist over the drink to release its oils, then drop it in as garnish and optionally add a fresh sprig of rosemary for aroma.

Notes

Honey syrup can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
