Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 ounces Scotch whisky preferably blended or single malt
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 0.5 ounce Benedictine liqueur
  • 1 twist fresh lemon peel for garnish
  • Ice preferably large cubes or chips

Equipment

  • Cocktail mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger or measuring shot glass
  • Coupe or martini glass
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Cutting board and knife

Method
 

  1. Chill your coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least two minutes.
  2. Fill the cocktail mixing glass three-quarters full with ice.
  3. Measure and pour 1.5 ounces of Scotch whisky into the ice-filled mixing glass.
  4. Add 1 ounce of sweet vermouth to the mixing glass.
  5. Add 0.5 ounce of Benedictine liqueur to the mixing glass.
  6. Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds in one consistent direction.
  7. Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into the chilled glass.
  8. Twist a strip of fresh lemon peel over the drink to express oils and drop it in as garnish.

Notes

Serve immediately after straining to enjoy at its optimal temperature and balance.
