Ingredients

Main
  • 0.5 ounce blue curaçao
  • 0.5 ounce vodka
  • 0.5 ounce gin
  • Ice for chilling, if desired

Equipment

  • Shot glass (1.5 ounce or standard size)
  • Jigger (0.5 and 1 ounce measures)
  • Bar spoon or long-handled teaspoon
  • Cocktail shaker with strainer (optional)
  • Mixing glass or small bowl (for pre-mixing)

Method

  1. Chill the shot glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Pour 0.5 ounce of blue curaçao into the chilled shot glass using a jigger.
  3. Slowly pour 0.5 ounce of vodka over the back of a bar spoon to float on the blue curaçao.
  4. Using the bar spoon, carefully layer 0.5 ounce of gin on top of the vodka.
  5. Check the glass from the side to confirm three distinct layers.
  6. Optionally add a single ice cube to the glass for 30 seconds to chill, then remove it.
  7. Either stir gently to combine flavors or serve the shot layered for a visual effect.
  8. Serve immediately while the shot is cold and the layers are defined.

Notes

The key to successful layering is to pour slowly over the back of a spoon to maintain separation of layers.
