  • 0.75 ounces cranberry juice fresh if possible
  • 0.5 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup or agave nectar
  • 2 to 3 drops hot sauce or sriracha for subtle heat
  • Ice cubes as needed
  • Fresh cranberries for garnish optional
  • Lime wheel for rim and garnish

Equipment

  • Bar spoon or long stirring spoon
  • Jigger or measuring spoon for accurate pours
  • Strainer
  • Small plastic bag or blood bag
  • Highball or rocks glass
  • Muddler (optional)
  • Citrus juicer or hand squeezer

Method

  1. Fill your highball or rocks glass with ice cubes and set it aside while you prepare the drink.
  2. Pour 1.5 ounces of vodka into a cocktail shaker using a jigger for accuracy.
  3. Add 0.75 ounces of cranberry juice to the shaker with your vodka.
  4. Squeeze 0.5 ounces of fresh lime juice into the shaker.
  5. Measure and add 0.5 ounces of simple syrup or agave nectar to balance sweetness.
  6. Add 2 to 3 drops of hot sauce or sriracha to the shaker for a hint of heat.
  7. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds to chill and dilute.
  8. Strain the mixture into your ice-filled glass using a strainer to remove shards.
  9. Prepare the blood bag by filling a small plastic bag with equal parts cranberry juice and grenadine, seal it, and drape it over the glass.
  10. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and a few fresh cranberries, then serve immediately.

Notes

Prepare your blood bag filling in advance and refrigerate it so it's ice cold when you assemble the drink for a more dramatic effect as it drips.
