Ingredients

Main
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 2 cups vodka or grain alcohol
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice berries
  • 1 orange zested and juiced

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
  • Glass jars or bottles for storage
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon for stirring

Method

  1. In a large pot, combine the apple cider, brown sugar, and spices. Stir the mixture well to dissolve the sugar completely.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Once simmering, add the zest and juice of the orange.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. After 30 minutes, remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. Using a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a clean bowl or pot.
  7. Once strained, stir in the vodka or grain alcohol.
  8. Pour the finished liquor into glass jars or bottles and seal tightly. Store it in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, let the liquor sit for a week before serving; patience is key!
