Ingredients

Main
  • 1 gallon of Welch's Grape Juice not from concentrate
  • 2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 1 packet of wine yeast such as Montrachet or Lalvin 1118
  • 1/4 teaspoon of potassium metabisulfite optional, for sanitation
  • Water if needed to adjust the volume

Equipment

  • 1-gallon glass jug
  • Airlock and stopper
  • Funnel
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Clean cloth or cheesecloth

Method

  1. Start by sanitizing all your equipment.
  2. Pour the Welch's Grape Juice into your sanitized jug.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and stir until it's fully dissolved.
  4. If your juice falls short of a gallon, top it off with water.
  5. Sprinkle the wine yeast on top of the juice mixture without stirring.
  6. Fit the airlock into the stopper and secure it onto the jug.
  7. Store the jug in a dark, room-temperature place for about two weeks.
  8. After two weeks, check if fermentation has slowed down significantly.
  9. Carefully siphon the wine into clean bottles, leaving sediment behind.
  10. Seal the bottles with caps or corks for storage.

Notes

Enjoy your homemade wine chilled or at room temperature paired with a light cheese platter or charcuterie board.
